The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has seen a 14 percent yearly increase in the number of suspicious betting alerts in 2022, totaling 268.
The group attributes the rise to a ‘significant growth of its membership and the coverage of its regulated betting market monitoring network’.
While a strong increase, the group notes that the figure is ‘reasonably consistent with the 230 average annual alerts during 2019-21.
A total of 50 alerts were filed in the fourth quarter, while the majority were filed in the second quarter (80) and third (90),
The group’s alert network covers 61 countries and four sports, with tennis and football being the major contributors.
Most of the alerts filed came from Europe (nearly 50 percent).
During the period from 2018 to 2022, IBIA reported some 1,224 alerts across 21 sports and 102 countries – with tennis and football accounting for 70 percent of all cases.
Speaking about the group’s activity, group CEO Khalid Ali noted that “he protective shield provided by IBIA is a vital tool in identifying and sanctioning attempted corruption on regulated betting markets”.
