Macau’s flagship carrier, Air Macau, has launched new route between Macau and the Thai capital, linking Macau and Bangkok’s Don Mueang International Airport.
Macau’s aviation authorities expressed their hope of the new route helping Macau to connect the Southeast Asian, European and Australian travel markets.
The Civil Aviation Authority notes that Bangkok has been a very popular destination for Macau’s citizens, and many existing carriers are operating the flight from/to Bangkok Suvarnabhumi Airport, with Bangkok being the third-highest destination that Macau has flights to with two airports in the same city, the other two being Beijing and Shanghai.
At the flight launch ceremony, the vice-president of Air Macau, Liao Hanxi, said that initially there will be two round trips weekly on Tuesday and Thursday and that there are plans to increase the frequency of flights gradually, starting in mid-May with a daily flight.
The Macau SAR Government has a goal of significantly increasing foreign visitation – that being tourists from outside mainland China, Hong Kong or Taiwan. To achieve such a goal, Macau has extended its free return ticket offer for foreign visitors from Hong Kong, starting from mid-April to June.
