The Wakayama Prefecture will hold a series of public meetings both in the city and the wider province from Nov. 25th to provide information about plans for an integrated resort in Wakayama Marina City.

“Wakayama Integrated Resort (IR) Public Hearing” is for the purpose of having the citizens of the prefecture understand the area development plan, listening to the opinions of the citizens of the prefecture, and reflecting them in the plan,” it said.

It will hold seven briefings in the city and seven in provincial locations.

The Wakayama prefectural government announced it had officially approved Clairvest Neem Venture’s plans to develop an integrated resort in the city in July.

The company’s proposal consists of a facility of approximately 569,000 square meters in total size, including international conference halls, exhibition halls, restaurants, accommodation venues, and a casino.

The initial investment amount pledged by Clairvest for the development of the Wakayama IR is JPY470 billion (US$4.3 billion).

The city’s chances of winning one of the three coveted licenses received a boost in September, when Caesars Entertainment said it would be joining the consortium.

“Caesars is an iconic brand, and we are proud to partner with CNV to bring it to Japan,” Tom Reeg, CEO of Caesars Entertainment, said at the time. “We believe our experience blends perfectly with CNV’s and look forward to creating something special with them for the Kansai region.”
