Daily Asia Gaming eBrief: New Zealand presents Online Casino Gaming Bill

Good Morning. One license to rule them all. Or at least in the case of New Zealand legislation, one online casino gaming bill that will rule 15 potential suitors. Competing bidders stand to win a three-year license, with an extension of up to five years, providing theyโ€™re found suitable. Meanwhile, down under, The Star is again facing difficulties, after its proposed sale of its part of Queenโ€™s Wharf Brisbane to its JV partners could be terminated. And in Sri Lanka, the push for a gaming regulator is causing some trepidation, as a think tank identifies some key features that could require the bill regulating it to go back to the drawing board.

Online Casino Gaming Bill presented

New Zealand is strongly moving ahead with its licensing procedure for online casinos, launching a bill that proposes the auction of 15 licenses via a three-stage process. Each license would be valid for three years with a renewal option for up to five years. The bill is still subject to committee approval, and applicants would have to go through a strict suitability and compliance assessment. This comes even as TAB gets exclusivity to operate online sports and racing betting.
