Mohegan’s new flagship property in Incheon, South Korea, INSPIRE Entertainment Resort, has slightly pushed back the expected announcement date of the opening of its casino, initially hoping to reveal the schedule for its debut on Monday.
Speaking to AGB, Chen Si – the President of INSPIRE Entertainment Resort – noted that a new announcement is now likely on Wednesday regarding the casino’s opening date.
Mohegan, the company behind the multi-billion-dollar IR in Incheon, announced last week that it had secured its casino license, after having achieved a five-star rating for its hotel – key criteria in the opening of the IR’s gaming component.
Mohegan has long-cited the first quarter as its expected casino opening date, while the group held a soft-opening of certain non-gaming components back in November.
The granting of a new casino license in South Korea was the first time since 2005 and marks the Asian debut of Mohegan’s gaming offerings, as well as hospitality, MICE and – particularly – its entertainment.
The group, via its 15,000-seat arena, is aiming to capitalize off non-gaming entertainment such as K-Pop, while also leveraging the Incheon International Airport, located nearby.
The property boasts three hotel towers, with a total of 1,275 rooms.
Upon opening, INSPIRE’s casino will only allow gambling by foreign patrons.
