A worker at South Korea’s Kangwon Land casino has died after collapsing while on duty inside the casino’s operating area, according to a regulatory disclosure filed by the company.

The incident occurred on March 11th, inside the casino workplace at Kangwon Land. According to the disclosure, the employee collapsed while working and was transported to a hospital for emergency treatment but was later pronounced dead. The cause of death has not yet been determined.

The company reported one fatality and no additional injuries related to the incident.

Kangwon Land said the case was reported to South Korea’s Ministry of Employment and Labor on the same day as the accident. Authorities are expected to conduct an on-site investigation to determine the cause of the incident.

Further details about the circumstances surrounding the collapse have not yet been disclosed.

Kangwon Land operates the Kangwon Land Casino & Resort in the remote mining region of Gangwon Province. The property is notable for being the only casino in South Korea where local residents are legally permitted to gamble, while all other casinos in the country are restricted to foreign visitors.

The resort is operated by Kangwon Land Inc., a company majority-owned by the South Korean government, and is considered a key economic driver in the region.
