Filipino businessman and politician Alfredo “Albee” Benitez has sold part of his shareholding in operator DigiPlus Interactive, according to a filing with the Philippines Stock Exchange. Benitez divested a total of 66.66 million shares of the company within a price range of PHP 7.01713 to PHP 7.45, or around $0.13.
The sale was facilitated through Makati based stockbroker CLSA Philippines and took place on the 20th of December. DigiPlus Interactive (PLUS) was previously known as Leisure and Resorts World Corp. (LRWC) before the company changed its name in March of last year.
It functions as a holding company for all its subsidiaries in various gaming and entertainment sectors in the Philippines and the stock has been a strong performer over the last twelve months, moving from PHP 2.4 ($0.043) at the beginning of last year to PHP 8.2 ($0.15) at the end of December 2023.
Benitez was previously in charge of PLUS when it was still known as Leisure and Resorts World but stepped down in October of 2021 to focus on politics again. In recent times, the company has undergone a digital transformation and introduced BingoPlus in 2022 and the digital sports betting app Arena Plus in 2023. Benitez continues to hold 536.4 million PLUS shares, valued at PHP 4.38 billion ($78.02 million).
