Malaysian authorities have arrested 40 suspects after raids on an online gambling call center operation targeting overseas punters.

The raids took place around Kuala Lumpur and Selangor, according to reports, while the suspects include 21 Chinese nationals, 17 Malays and one Singaporean.

Authorities say that the online gambling platform targeted Taiwanese, who were required to transfer funds to an account they believe to be located in mainland China.

Following the transfer, punters could use points on the gambling platform. Authorities also believe that the platform accepted money in China and converted it into crypto and transferring the crypto back to China.

During the raids, police seized 88 mobile phones, three cars and numerous computers, as well as thousands in cash.

The suspects are remanded until Thursday.
