Malaysian real estate agent loses over $160,000 to online gambling scam

A Malaysian real estate agent recently became a victim of an online gambling scam, suffering a loss exceeding RM750,000 ($160,000).

The 35-year-old man was initially lured into the fraudulent scheme after being approached via social media, where he was enticed by promises of high returns from a seemingly legitimate online gambling platform, local media reported.

He began by investing RM100,000 ($24,636), encouraged by the platform’s promotions and testimonials.

As he was drawn deeper into the scheme, he made additional transfers amounting to significant sums in hopes of increasing his winnings. Unfortunately, when he later attempted to withdraw his returns, he found himself locked out of his account and unable to access his funds, leading him to realize he had been scammed.

The incident has prompted local authorities to issue warnings to the public about such fraudulent schemes, emphasizing the need for caution when engaging with online investment opportunities, particularly those that promise quick and high returns.

Investigations are currently underway to identify and track down the scammers involved in this case. The authorities urge anyone who suspects they may be a victim of similar scams to come forward and report it.
