Melco not seeing much impact from recent outbreak

Melco Resorts CEO Lawrence Ho said the company has not seen much of an impact from the recent Covid-19 outbreak in China.

“Obviously, June when we had the issues, things slowed down dramatically for us. But boy, we really got back on track when we got to July. It was very strong. And anything after that first week of July, it seems just to get better with each passing week.”

Earlier this week, Macau placed four provinces in China under its 14-day mandatory quarantine list. Some 144 people have now been subjected to mandatory hotel quarantine in Macau after new government mandates due to the outbreak in the Nanjing Lukou airport.

However, Ho said there has been no impact.

“I think part of it may be as well as we started to hit the school holidays. And as the school holidays come into play, more and more visitors are starting to come into Macau as well. So no impact. We’re pretty happy with where the results are going.”
