Hengqin Port, a major land border crossing linking mainland China and Macau, has recorded more than 110 million passenger crossings since its current facility opened six years ago, with visitors accounting for 40 percent of traffic this year.

Average daily passenger traffic reached 98,000 between January 1st and August 15th, 2026, nearly four times the 26,000 recorded at the former Lotus Bridge checkpoint in 2019, according to Macau’s Public Security Police Force.

The increase strengthens Hengqin Port’s role as a gateway to Macau’s tourism and integrated-resort market. The checkpoint sits just across the Lotus Bridge from the Cotai Strip, where most of the city’s largest casino resorts are located.

The Macau Light Rapid Transit Hengqin Line also connects Hengqin Station at the port with Lotus Station in Cotai. The rail journey between the two stations takes about two minutes, giving travelers direct access to the wider Macau LRT network.

Macau residents accounted for another 28.9 percent of passenger movements through the port this year. Passenger traffic reached a 2026 high of 148,000 crossings on May 2nd.

The current passenger inspection area opened on August 18th, 2020, replacing the former Lotus Bridge checkpoint. It introduced a joint clearance system allowing travelers to complete Macau and Mainland Chinese immigration procedures through a single process.

Authorities have since expanded self-service channels and simplified clearance for frequent travelers, tour groups and people moving regularly between Macau and the Guangdong-Macau In-Depth Cooperation Zone in Hengqin.

Additional arrangements introduced on August 18th widened access to self-service clearance and joint one-stop vehicle lanes for eligible Mainland Chinese, Hong Kong, Taiwan and foreign travelers.
