Macau surges in global MICE rankings with record-breaking growth in 2024

The International Congress & Convention Association (ICCA) has released its 2024 Market Annual Report, spotlighting Macau’s strides in the global Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) sector.

Globally, the city soared 31 spots to reach 76th place, tying with Beijing and Doha—a major comeback to the top 100 MICE cities for the first time since 2019. Macau also climbed ten places in the global country and regional rankings, settling at 57th.

The city hosted 33 ICCA-accredited international conferences in 2024, marking a sharp 50 percent increase from the previous year. Some 79 percent of these events aligned with Macau’s ‘1+4’ economic diversification strategy, particularly in modern finance and tourism.

This performance has propelled Macau six places higher in the Asia-Pacific rankings, now standing at 14th.

These achievements are complemented by a string of accolades Macau has secured in recent years, including titles like “Best Convention City in Asia” and “Best Destination for Annual Meetings.”

For a conference to be ICCA-certified, it must be initiated by an international association, rotate across at least three countries or regions, be held regularly, and attract 50 or more participants.

This improvement was attrributed to the efforts carried out by the Macau Trade and Investment Promotion Institute (IPIM) since it became an ICCA member in 2012, through initiatives like the “Macao Conference Ambassadors” program.
