Sportradar completes acquisition of IMG ARENA’s betting rights portfolio

Sports data firm Sportradar announced it has completed its acquisition of IMG ARENA’s global sports betting rights portfolio, a deal that expands its access to top-tier competitions and strengthens its position in the international sports data market.

The Swiss-based company said the acquisition covers betting rights to sports including tennis, soccer and basketball, with more than 70 rightsholders and around 38,000 official data events and 29,000 streaming events annually. Major properties include Wimbledon, the US Open, Roland-Garros, Major League Soccer and the PGA Tour.

Sportradar said the transaction would accelerate revenue and earnings growth and be accretive to margins and free cash flow. Unusually, the company said it will not pay for the assets; instead, it will receive total financial consideration of $225 million, including $122 million in cash prepayments to sports rightsholders by the seller and about $103 million payable directly to Sportradar over two years.

‘With this, we are uniquely positioned to deliver even more immersive, data-rich experiences to our clients, partners and fans around the world while accelerating innovation at scale’, chief executive Carsten Koerl said in a statement.

The deal boosts Sportradar’s annual sports coverage to more than one million events and marks a key step in its strategy to cement its lead in the fast-growing sports betting technology and data industry.
