Australia continues crackdown on illegal offshore gambling websites

Australia’s communications watchdog, ACMA, has requested that Australian internet service providers (ISPs) block more illegal offshore gambling websites after investigations found four services to be operating in breach of the nation’s Interactive Gambling Act 2001.

Since the ACMA made its first blocking request in November of 2019, 723 illegal gambling and affiliate websites have been blocked.

The latest blocked websites include: Firefox Casino, Shazam Casino, Rich Prize and Heaps O Wins.

According to the Wednesday statement, over 200 illegal services have also pulled out of the Australian market since the ACMA started enforcing new illegal offshore gambling rules in 2017.

The ACMA is reminding consumers that even if a service looks legitimate, its unlikely to have important customer protections.
