Visitor arrivals to Macau reached 606,841 in April 2022, a 15.2 percent improvement from March, which was attributable to the easing of entry measures, according to the Statistics and Census Service of Macau (DSEC).

The figure however, represented a year-on-year drop of 23.7 percent, led mainly by a 59.8 percent fall in overnight visitors and a 23.7 percent fall in same-day visitors.

The figure also did not help Macau’s gross gaming revenues. As per reports earlier this month, Macau saw its worst GGR figure in April since September 2020.

The DSEC said that the number of visitors from mainland China went down by 26.8 percent year-on-year in April to 534,899, with 118,589 of them traveling under the Individual Visit Scheme. There has been speculation that frequent travelers to Macau are having their visas rejected, which is expected to further hold back gross gambling revenue growth.
