A top political representative is calling for the Mariana Commonwealth Casino Commission to revoke the casino license of Imperial Pacific International (IPI).

According to the Saipan Tribune, Representative Edwin Propst notes that the license should be revoked immediately “unless there is some money that falls from the sky from IPI”, something the politician deems “about as likely as pigs flying”.

Propst notes that IPI has promised to pay some $5 million a year to the local government and $1 million to the casino commission but questions the figures given IPI’s track record.

The company recently disclosed the planned annual payments in order to get back its suspended casino license, following an indefinite suspension in April of 2021 due to failure to enforce CCC mandates.

The representative has also called for an assessment on whether IPI’s integrated resort, as yet unfinished, should even continue to be constructed, calling it an “eyesore”.
