SJM strengthens its dedication to promoting Responsible Gaming

SJM Resorts, S.A. (“SJM”) continues to firmly support the Macao SAR Government’s responsible gaming efforts. Under the theme “Seeking Help for Winning the Future,” SJM has introduced a variety of activities this year to promote responsible gaming practices.

SJM held the “SJM Responsible Gaming Promotion 2024 – Responsible Gaming Competition and Course Certificate Award Ceremony” at the Grand Ballroom of Grand Lisboa Macau, recognizing the outstanding contributions of team members who have actively participated in responsible gaming initiatives throughout the year.

This celebration also served to encourage these dedicated team members to continue their efforts, laying a strong foundation for the sustainable development of Macau’s tourism and leisure industry. 

The ceremony was attended by distinguished guests including:

  • Mr. Yang Yi, Deputy Director of the Economic Affairs Department of the Liaison Office of the Central People’s Government in the Macao SAR;
  • Mr. Cheang Io Tat, Head of the Department of Prevention and Treatment of Problem Gambling and Drug Dependence of the Social Welfare Bureau of the Macao SAR;
  • Ms. Ng On Lou, Head of Research and Data Analysis Division of the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau of the Macao SAR;
  • Ms. Ho Sut Heng, President of the Macau Federation of Trade Unions;
  • Mr. Leong Sun Iok, Chairman of the Macao Gaming Industry Employees Home;
  • Prof. Wang Changbin, Director of Centre for Gaming and Tourism Studies of Macao Polytechnic University;
  • Prof. Davis Fong, Director of the Institute for the Study of Commercial Gaming at the University of Macau;
  • Mr. Siu Yu Hong, President of Yat On Responsible Gambling Counselling Centre;
  • Mr. Song Wai Kit, President of Macau Responsible Gaming Association;
  • Ms. Anny Yip, Service Coordinator of Sheng Kung Hui Macau Social Services Coordination Office;
  • Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM;
  • Ms. Angela Leong, Director of SJM and Chairman of the Staff Welfare Consultative Committee of SJM. 

In her opening remarks, Ms. Daisy Ho, Managing Director of SJM, stated, “SJM has always been dedicated to fulfilling its social responsibilities by persistently promoting the importance of responsible gaming among both our employees and the wider community. We have seamlessly woven this message into the guest experience, ensuring that our offerings provide unparalleled and healthy leisure delights.”

She emphasized, “Looking ahead, SJM will continue to advocate for responsible gaming while actively contributing to the economic stability and development of Macau.” 

SJM actively collaborated with various social service organizations around the theme of “Seeking Help for Winning the Future,” organizing diverse promotional activities for both employees and the public. These initiatives included professional training courses, on-site booths and consultation services, board game experiences, gaming competitions, photo exhibitions, community flash mobs, and public carnivals, with nearly 20,000 participants in total. The “Responsible Gambling Knowledge Quiz Competition” saw the “Case Real Hotel” team emerge as the champion, while “Hotel Fortuna” and “Landmark Hotel” teams took home second and third place respectively. 

The “One Happy Family” board game competition invited public participation, fostering a deeper understanding of the issues and challenges faced by individuals with gambling disorders and their families.

To further enhance employees’ expertise in responsible gaming, SJM facilitated participation in certificate courses and internships offered by the Macao SAR Government and other institutions.

Over 35 team members successfully earned their certifications from programs such as the “Responsible Gambling Advanced Learning Course”, “Certified Gambling Counsellor Training Course accredited by the Canadian Council of Professional Certification”, “Sustainable Development in Macau Tourism, Leisure, Entertainment – Responsible Gaming” and the training course jointly organized by SJM and Yat On Responsible Gambling Counselling Centre. 

SJM is committed to upholding responsible gaming principles and will continue to collaborate with the government and various organizations to promote these practices. Through these efforts, SJM seeks to enhance public awareness and understanding of responsible gaming, embracing its corporate responsibility to foster a socially responsible gaming culture and contribute to a healthy and harmonious society on all fronts.
