Macau International Airport handled nearly 3.9 million passenger movements in the first half of 2026, up 7.9 percent year-on-year, although traffic weakened during the final two months of the period.
Monthly data published by Macau International Airport Company Limited (CAM) show passenger volume increased throughout the first four months. April traffic rose 10.2 percent year-on-year to 666,416 movements before falling 0.45 percent in May and 9.3 percent in June.
The airport recorded 525,078 passenger movements in June, the lowest monthly total of the first half. Despite the decline, second-quarter volume edged up 0.27 percent year-on-year to approximately 1.78 million.
Macao Daily News cited a local tourism industry source as attributing the May and June weakness partly to higher airfares after airlines raised fuel surcharges amid elevated international oil prices.
The source also said the FIFA World Cup may have reduced travel demand, with some football fans traveling to North America for the tournament or remaining at home to watch broadcasts. Those explanations represent an industry assessment and were not conclusions issued by CAM.
CAM’s figures also show the airport handled 28,997 aircraft movements during the six-month period, up 2.3 percent from a year earlier.
Despite the annual growth, first-half passenger traffic remained about 17.5 percent below the corresponding 2019 level, when the airport handled 4.72 million movements.
