Macau welcomed 4.48 million visitors in August, up 6.1 percent year-on-year, as double-digit growth in same-day traffic offset declines in overnight and international arrivals.
Same-day arrivals rose by 11.7 percent to 2.85 million, accounting for nearly two-thirds of the monthly total, according to data released by the Statistics and Census Service (DSEC).
Overnight visitors fell by 2.4 percent to 1.63 million, while their average length of stay remained unchanged at 2.3 days. The average stay across all visitors shortened by 0.1 day to 1.0 day.
Mainland China remained the principal source market, providing 3.56 million visitors, an increase of 9.3 percent from a year earlier and close to 80 percent of the August total.

Arrivals under the Individual Visit Scheme, which allows eligible mainland residents to travel to Macau independently rather than as part of a tour group, increased by 12.7 percent to 2.02 million.
Visitor numbers from Taiwan rose by 13.7 percent to 101,282, while arrivals from Hong Kong fell by 5.6 percent to 643,445.
International arrivals declined by 9.8 percent to 171,679. Japan recorded the sharpest drop among the markets listed by DSEC, falling by 31.1 percent to 11,464 visitors.
Arrivals from the Philippines decreased by 18.5 percent, while India, Indonesia and South Korea recorded declines of between 12.6 percent and 17.6 percent. Malaysia was an exception, with visitor numbers rising by 2.1 percent.
For the first eight months of 2026, total arrivals increased by 7.7 percent to 28.96 million. Same-day traffic grew by 13.6 percent to 17.85 million, while overnight arrivals edged down by 0.6 percent to 11.11 million.
