As part of Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s efforts to reinforce the value of sustainability for youth, Melco and the University of Macau (UM) co-organized the 2021 Guangdong Hong Kong Macau Greater Bay Area Integrated Resort Sustainability Business Case Study Competition – ‘Start Young’ Hospitality Management Professional Challenge. The initiative’s closing award ceremony was successfully hosted at City of Dreams on December 12.

‘Start Young’ was Macau’s first integrated resorts business case study competition exploring the theme of sustainability and showcases Melco’s award-winning ‘Above & Beyond’ sustainability strategy to student participants. Aiming to help students better understand on-the-ground business operations and identify sustainable optimization solutions through field visits, the program comprised 22 rounds of onsite visits and two rounds of virtual sustainability seminars and green tours. More than 330 students from 25 high schools and universities in the Greater Bay Area participated in the competition.

Ms. Akiko Takahashi, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff to Chairman & CEO of Melco Resorts & Entertainment Limited, said, “Positioned at the core of Melco’s ‘Above & Beyond’ strategy is Company Chairman & CEO Mr. Lawrence Ho’s aim to inspire guests to join us on our sustainability journey – to realize that a sustainable future is a better future for all. The ‘Start Young’ initiative aims to help instill the value and significance of sustainable development for students in the Greater Bay Area. This has been a treasured collaboration with the University of Macau in celebration of their 40th anniversary, and we thank Professor Dean Chen for her leadership.”
