More than 18,000 travellers have been blocked from leaving Guangzhou on planes, trains and buses since Tuesday for failing to present negative covid test results as well as a green health code.
Guangzhou on Monday required all air, train and bus passengers to show negative test results in order to leave the city.
“The move aims to further reduce the flow of people, lower the risk of infection and prevent and control the spread of the novel coronavirus,” said Shen Ying, deputy director of the Guangzhou municipal transportation bureau.
The restrictions are expected to vastly reduce the number of mainland Chinese visitors to Macau, with Bernstein earlier this week expecting a 30 percent fall in GGR in June.
