GEG fosters environmental awareness through music at Lai Chi Vun Shipyards

Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) recently collaborated with its Music Partner, Macao Orchestra, and its Green Partner, Green Future, to host the “GEG Rhythms of Nature Family Workshop” at GEG’s revitalization project, the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards area.

The event combined environmental protection and resource conservation with engaging family activities, including a guided eco tour, a green instrument-making session, and live percussion and orchestral performances, offering participating parent-child families a fun and immersive experience in green living.

Open registration for the workshop received an enthusiastic response, quickly reaching full capacity, attracting more than 30 family groups, including around 70 children and parents.

The workshop began with an eco tour of the Lai Chi Vun Shipyards, where an environmental education instructor from Green Future guided children and parents through the site’s environmentally conscious design features, including the natural ventilation systems that are used to reduce energy consumption, the vertical greening that are applied to improve spatial comfort, and the eco-friendly materials such as recycled wood and repurposed rubber that are used in the site’s leisure and play facilities.

The tour also highlighted the ecological characteristics of the surrounding area, including the nearby mangrove ecosystem, allowing participants to appreciate the site’s value from an ecological, environmental, cultural, and historical perspective.

The participating children and their parents also learned to use materials recycled from GEG’s daily operations, including staff uniforms and chopsticks, to create handmade instruments such as shaker tubes and mini drums, gaining hands-on experience in upcycling and waste transformation.

Following the activity, accompanied by Wavey, the Peacock of Galaxy Kidz, the participants gathered at the stepped seating area, a multifunctional performance and leisure zone made from recycled wood, to enjoy a rhythmic percussion performance by musicians from the Macao Orchestra, who creatively delivered their masterpiece using household items as instruments.

To enhance the engagement, participants were also invited to join a live jam session with their self-made instruments, creating a joyful and heart-warming atmosphere.

GEG remains committed to integrating environmental protection into its daily operations and supporting sustainable development through practical actions, including being the first integrated tourism and leisure enterprise to implement the “Bamboo as a Substitute for Plastic” initiative, replacing plastic amenities with bamboo in over 90% of its hotel rooms; and maintaining more than 60,000-square meter green landscape at Galaxy Macau™.

These efforts have also been widely recognized, with GEG holding the most EarthCheck certifications among Macau’s integrated resort operators, and its various hotel brands receiving accolades under the “Macau Green Hotel Awards” organized by the Environmental Protection Bureau of the Macau SAR Government and co-organized by the Macao Government Tourism Office.
