Average earnings of full-time employees in the Macau gaming industry in December were MOP25,290 ($3,138), up by 6.8 percent year-on-year. This figure has already surpassed the MOP24,640 ($3,058) reported in 4Q19.

According to official data, there were a total of 51,771 workers employed in the sector, a decrease of 403 (0.8 percent) year-on-year. Among them, dealers totaled 23,359, down by 362 (1.5 percent) year-on-year.

The average earnings of dealers stood at MOP20,870 ($2,590), up 5.4 percent, mainly due to the low base of comparison caused by a relatively large number of employees being placed on unpaid leave in the same month of 2022.

The number of job vacancies in the gaming sector rose by 387 year-on-year to 400 at the end of 4Q23. Among the vacancies, 23.8 percent required work experience and 84.8 percent required just senior secondary education or lower; meanwhile, the requirement for knowledge of Mandarin and English stood at 97 percent and 83.5 percent, respectively.

In the fourth quarter, the employee recruitment and turnover rates increased slightly, as the number of new recruits and employees leaving employment totaled 1,035 and 843, respectively.
