Macau’s economy grew by just 0.3 percent year-on-year in the second quarter of 2026, slowing sharply from the 7.1 percent expansion recorded in the previous quarter.
Gross domestic product (GDP) totaled MOP102.33 billion ($12.7 billion) during the three months to June, according to the Statistics and Census Service.
For the first half of 2026, GDP increased by 3.7 percent in real terms to MOP209.89 billion ($26.1 billion).
The statistics bureau attributed the expansion to continued growth in exports of services, supported by higher visitor arrivals.
Total exports of services rose 7.2 percent year-on-year during the six-month period, while visitor arrivals increased 9.0 percent.
Private consumption expenditure grew 2.8 percent. However, government final consumption expenditure edged down 0.2 percent, while gross fixed capital formation fell 9.4 percent.
First-half economic output reached 89.1 percent of the level recorded during the same period of 2019.
