Cambodian Prime Minister Hun Manet says that he has already ordered the suspension of license issuance in the nation, while the country is also studying the possibility of revoking licenses due to their negative impact.
According to a local media outlet, a Cambodian top official said so during his meeting with Cambodians in Australia and New Zealand. Hun Manet asked investors to understand the decision to ban the expansion of gambling venues in Cambodia.
He highlighted that the government has no intention to promote the establishment of gambling sites, even if they are legally permissible. “Anything operating illegally, from small-scale enterprises to local communities, is counterproductive and will be eliminated,” he said.
Regarding the gambling issue, the premier emphasized, “I urge all investors to understand that gambling is not highly profitable and it creates difficulties.”
Hun Manet emphasized that Cambodia has made remarkable strides over the past two decades, transitioning from an impoverished nation to a lower-middle-income country without relying on revenue from illegal gambling.
