Victoria premier Daniel Andrews has announced an extension of the lockdown in Victoria, which was supposed to have ended on 11:59pm July 20.
The lockdown will now be extended to 11:59pm July 27, extending it by a week.
Mr. Andrews said they wanted to avoid a NSW-style long, lengthy lockdown, and just needed more time to “extinguish” the outbreak.
Meanwhile, the NSW lockdown was tightened last week, limiting the number of people allowed to go shopping for essentials to just 1. The lockdown is due to end on July 30, but health experts are expecting it to run into August or September due to the continued high number of daily new cases.
