Macau’s visitor arrivals fell 5.6 percent in February from the prior month, despite the Chinese New Year holiday period.

According to the Statistics and Census Service, total arrivals for the month were 655,505, up 53.5 percent from the prior year.

The number of same day visitors more than doubled to 376,033, while the more lucrative overnight arrivals gained 13.9 percent to 274,472. The average length of stay also declined by 0.4 day to 1.5 days.

There was a 60 percent increase in visitors from Mainland China to 609,249, with 196,523 arriving on an individual visit scheme visa. Just under two thirds of the arrivals were from the nine cities in the Greater Bay Area, with 59.1 percent of those coming from the border city of Zhuhai.

Visitation in the latter part of February was hit by increasing Covid restrictions as cases surged in neighboring Hong Kong and began to spillover into China.
