A subsidiary of Genting Singapore has been granted provisional approval to develop some 700 hotel rooms and over 21,000 square meters in retail space at Resorts World Sentosa.
The expansion is believed to be part of the company’s S$4.5 billion ($3.3 billion) pledge to further develop the RWS resort.
According to the Straits Times, the Urban Redevelopment Authority was the government body responsible for granting the authorization to the Genting subsidiary.
Currently, there are some five hotels providing 1,600 rooms at Resorts World Sentosa.
The property is expecting strong growth coming out of the pandemic, with Sentosa Development Corporation estimating the island resort will hit pre-pandemic numbers in “one to two years”.
Genting Singapore posted an 86 percent increase in profit in 2022, at $258.32 million, due to strong results by Resorts World Sentosa.
