Philippines strengthens cybercrime response amid rising online threats

The Philippines’ Cybercrime Investigation and Coordinating Center (CICC) has partnered with the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI) to intensify action against online criminal activity and strengthen the country’s cyber defense system, according to the Philippine News Agency.

CICC Undersecretary Renato “Aboy” Paraiso said in a statement on Monday that the two agencies had made a strategic commitment to coordinate on policy development, lead cybercrime investigations, share research, and pool resources to improve the national cybersecurity framework.

“We have to outsmart these threat actors by being more proactive and aggressive in our efforts to keep our digital space safe and healthy for all Filipinos,” Paraiso said.

He described the partnership as a strategic move to improve the government’s response to cybercriminals by strengthening technology-driven capabilities.

“This collaboration is about combining our strengths, expertise, and resources to build a safer digital space for every Filipino,” Paraiso said.

The CICC has handled cases involving online scams, illegal online gambling, online sexual abuse or exploitation of children, and child sexual abuse or exploitation materials.
