A judge in the Commonwealth of Northern Mariana Islands has told Imperial Pacific International to pay $5.9 million in damages to seven Chinese workers, who suffered “appalling” mistreatment.

The workers sued IPI for forced labour and human trafficking. IPI, which is constructing a resort on Saipan, is currently closed and the company’s casino license has been suspended.
