Malaysia wins gold medal in the 3rd Global Esports Games in Riyadh

Malaysia has won gold in the Dota 2 Women’s category of the 3rd Global Esports Games, held in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.

Reports indicate that the country defeated Peru 2-0 in the finals, with the team attributing the win to its coach, friends and its sports psychologist service.

On social media, the group noted that ‘For a part-time, non-sponsored, zero-budget team to have gotten this far, many many kind souls have played a part in helping us get here today’.

The country also took home a silver medal in the open Dota 2 category, surpassing Kazakhstan.

The Malaysian Esports team is comprised of Pang “Ponyo Sze Xuan, Kam “Moon” Boon Seng, Nicholas “Zeal” Lim, Ng “YamateH” Wei Phoong and “Lonely Chucky” Kok Khin.

Esports play is gaining widespread adoption, with strong in-play betting options, garnering a younger audience of punters.
