Sands China presented ceremonial cheques totaling MOP1.08 million to representatives of seven higher education institutions on September 16 at a ceremony at The Venetian Macao, as part of the company’s ongoing support of higher education in Macau.
It is the 16th consecutive year of the annual initiative, which provides scholarship and fellowship money to Macau tertiary institutions.
Wilfred Wong, President of Sands China, said: “Sands China is pleased to continue our annual practice of supporting local tertiary education through these scholarship and fellowship donations. It is our hope that it will help nurture the growth of local youth and support the development of diversified talent in Macau, adding to Macao’s pool of human resources.”
Including this year’s donation, Sands China has donated MOP13.5 million for tertiary scholarships and fellowships in Macau, which have benefitted almost 1,600 students since 2006.
Each year, the educational institutions select beneficiary students based on their academic performance and financial status during the previous academic year.
This year’s MOP 1.08 million donation will be distributed among 108 students to support their studies for the current academic year.
