Macau suspicious transactions up 10%

The Macau Financial Intelligence Office observed an incremental increase in suspicious transactions in the gaming industry.

A total of 1,330 reports of suspicious transactions were submitted by Macau operators in 2021, up from 1,215 in 2020.

The gaming industry reports’ represented 54.6 percent of the overall submissions in 2021.

The Macau Financial Intelligence Office received a total of 2,435 suspicious transactions reports in 2021, up from 2,224 in 2020, representing a 9.5% increase.

No specific contributing factor to the increase was noted. 

Operators have reported a continuous improvement in their compliance mechanisms.
