Melco Resorts to pay one-month employee bonus before Chinese New Year

Melco Resorts & Entertainment said it will pay a one-month bonus to all eligible non-management employees, rounding out the field of Macau’s operators announcing annual payouts.

Melco said the award would be paid before Chinese New Year.

“The special payment of this discretionary bonus is to recognize the dedication, loyalty and hard work of our eligible non-management colleagues,” Chairman and CEO Lawrence Ho said. “We are thankful for the efforts of all colleagues in maintaining Melco’s service excellence as we continue to adapt to changes together.

As demonstrated by the upcoming opening of Studio City Phase 2, Melco is fully committed to the city’s economic diversification – further contributing to Macau’s ongoing development as a world center of leisure tourism.”

The operators have maintained staff bonuses despite another year of severely depleted revenues due to Covid.

Macau casino GGR rose 43.7 percent year-on-year in 2021, though the number is still less than a third of pre-pandemic GGR of 2019.

According to data from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau, December 2021 GGR came in at MOP7.96 billion ($991.2 million), rising only 1.8 percent from the prior-year period.

Analysts from Bernstein said this was better than expectations due to improving visitation and mass GGR in the last week of December.
