MPL becomes India’s second gaming unicorn

Mobile Premier League has become India’s second gaming unicorn with a pre-money valuation of $2.3 billion after its latest funding round.

The skill-based gaming company raised $150 million in a fundraising lead by Legatum Capital, according to Bloomberg.

A unicorn refers to a start-up company with a market valuation of more than $1 billion. MPL joins fantasy sports company Dream11 in the unicorn category.

Mobile Premier League (MPL), is India’s largest eSports and mobile gaming platform, with over 50+ games on its app on iOS and Android, and over 60 million users in India. MPL has also expanded to Indonesia and has a base of more than 3.5 million users.

MPL is headquartered in Bengaluru, with offices in Pune, Singapore, and Jakarta. 

Dream Sports, which owns online fantasy sports platform Dream11, in March raised $400 million in its latest funding round taking its valuation to nearly $5 billion.
