Curacao’s new Digital Seal Policy is now in force

Effective January 1st, 2024, the Curacao Gaming Control Board (GCB) has introduced its new Digital Seal Policy. Online gambling sites licensed under the National Ordinance on Games of Chance (LOK) regulations are now required to display a new, encrypted token based seal on their websites to prove they are legitimately registered within the jurisdiction.

The new seal was first unveiled late last year and forms part of the ongoing efforts to reform the gambling regulatory framework in the Caribbean nation. The underlying regulations are currently making their way through parliament and will soon replace the old master and sub-license setup, in a move that is hoped to enhance Curacao’s reputation as a gambling licensing jurisdiction.

Licensed operators that have satisfied the new registration and due diligence requirements will be required to display the new seal prominently on the landing page of their websites to indicate to players that they are indeed legitimate. It must also be legible to the human eye and cannot be altered to make it too small or illegible.

Providers still licensed under the old regulations are not allowed to display this new digital seal, and operators who are allowed to have it on their sites must link to a new https://cert.gcb.cw website with an encrypted token assigned to their domain.

The website to facilitate this authentication check was not yet online at the time of writing but seeing the regulator continue to take active steps shows that the transitioning process to the new regulatory framework appears to be well and truly underway.
