Illegal online gambling raids in Sihanoukville lead to deportation of almost 200 foreigners

In recent operations, authorities in Sihanoukville conducted two raids on illegal online gambling sites, resulting in the apprehension of a total of 195 illegal foreigners who will now face deportation from Cambodia, the Khmer Times reported.

On March 9, 2024, a raid at the former Paradis Island Casino site in Sihanoukville uncovered 172 foreigners, including 43 females, hailing from four nationalities – predominantly Vietnamese (109), along with 54 Thais, 8 Taiwanese, and 1 Chinese.

Additionally, five managers, four Taiwanese, and one Chinese, were arrested and will face legal proceedings at the Sihanoukville Provincial Court.

Of the 172 foreigners, 167 individuals (including 41 females) from three nationalities (Vietnamese, Thai, and Taiwanese) have been transferred to the General Department of Immigration for deportation.

The following day, on March 10, 2024, authorities raided another location in Group 23, Village 2, Sangkat 3, Sihanoukville, where they found 279 Cambodians (including 227 females) and 28 foreigners, primarily Chinese (27) and one from Myanmar.

The 28 foreigners have been sent to the General Department of Immigration for deportation.

These crackdown operations were conducted with the aim of eradicating all forms of fraudulent online gambling establishments in Sihanoukville.
