Melco Resorts & Entertainment’s proactive and innovative corporate social responsibility volunteerism initiatives have been recognized by the Association of Volunteers Social Service Macao (AVSM).

Melco was named ‘Outstanding Corporate for Volunteerism’ at AVSM’s award ceremony hosted to coincide with the United Nation’s International Volunteer Day. The Company’s efforts encouraging colleagues to take part in volunteerism to help local communities in need, especially under the shadow of the pandemic through its ‘Simple Acts of Kindness’ initiative, were acknowledged by AVSM for the third consecutive year.

Ms. Akiko Takahashi, Executive Vice President and Chief of Staff to Melco Chairman & CEO, said, “Melco’s commitment to community engagement and investment remains resilient. The Company’s unique and differentiated volunteering programs help ensure the wellbeing of communities in Macau. Since 2007, over 177,000 colleague participants have joined Melco’s global community engagement activities. Throughout the pandemic, Melco colleagues actively participated in the Company’s Simple Acts of Kindness initiative to offer help in any way possible. We will continue to promote and implement volunteerism for the betterment of the community. We thank the Association of Volunteers Social Service Macao for the recognition and are grateful to all Melco volunteers for their dedication and commitment shown the community during these trying times.”

Shortly after the onset of COVID-19, Melco Chairman & CEO Mr. Lawrence Ho deployed the Company’s workforce en masse to support the local community during work hours, encouraging all colleagues to care for the community through Simple Acts of Kindness. Within the first three months, Melco mobilized almost 7,000 Melco volunteer participants for the initiative, contacting over 1,600 organizations to support local NGO community partners including Small & Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and local groups in need, including the elderly, single families, long-term patients and children.

AVSM’s annual award ceremony aims to motivate local volunteers from educational institutions, social services suppliers, and corporations to continue contributing love and kindness to society, and further encourage all Macau citizens to participate in volunteering work.
