Macau launches subsidised “staycations” to boost tourism industry

Macau kicks off its “Stay, Dine and See Macau,” initiative from Thursday, which offers subsidies to local residents to stay in hotels and enjoy group tours.

Each Macau resident will be granted a MOP200 ($25) subsidy for one of 70 participating local hotels. A maximum of two people can use the room subsidy for a total of $50 a night.

Macau residents can receive these subsidies for any hotels (which include hotels in casinos) booked between April 23 and December 31.

Macau’s tourism authorities are seeking to mobilise locals to spend, amidst still slow visitation from Mainland China.

The MGTO has also organized six local tour itineraries between April 25 and December 31 that locals can take advantage of.
