Daily Asia Gaming eBrief: Macau struggles to attract international visitors

Good Morning. Lonely, I’m so lonely. That’s Macau’s outlook for foreign visitors, as it pulls out all the stops to try and bring in more tourists from any place but China. But not all plans are being praised, as a new subsidy scheme for flight tickets is seeing backlash from the industry, with infrastructure and transport questions still on the table. Meanwhile, a particular integrated resort in Malaysia is facing heat from the anti-corruption body over its land transfer, with executives in hot water.

Foreign tourist attraction methods in question

Macau’s methods for attracting foreign punters are being met with some skepticism from industry professionals, as the SAR announced its intention to invest $12 million to subsidize some 100,000 international air tickets. The government is working with the six local concessionaires in bringing in more foreign punters, as the second year of gaming operators’ licenses rolls out. The hope is to prolong stay in the SAR, and up spending on non-gaming activities.
