After months of deliberation Philippines President Ferdinand Marcos, Jr. sworn into office the new PAGCOR members of the Board of Directors.

After much presidential deliberation, PAGCOR’s new board was sworn in, with Alejandro H. Tengco replacing Andrea Domingo as Chairman and CEO. 

The Philippine gaming industry recorded notable growth in 2024, with land-based casinos remaining the largest contributor to gross gaming revenue (GGR).

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation (PAGCOR) anticipates a surge in GGR to reach PHP 336.38 billion ($6 billion) this year, driven by the growth of E-Games and the establishment of new integrated resorts.

It is the season for new beginnings. The revocation of licenses for Philippine Offshore Gaming Operators (POGOs) officially commenced on December 15, following President Ferdinand Marcos Jr.'s directive to terminate POGO operations nationwide. PAGCOR Chairman Alejandro Tengco announced that about 20 POGOs remain active, all of which must cease operations by January 1st. Meanwhile, Francis Lui has been appointed Chairman of Galaxy Entertainment Group, transitioning from his role as Deputy Chairman, following the passing of his father and company founder, Lui Che Woo. In nearby news, Morgan Stanley has warned that SJM Resorts' plan to convert an office building in Hengqin into a hotel could exacerbate the company's already high debt levels.

No need for "more teeth". That's what PAGCOR's Chairman says about suggestions that the regulator should have police powers in order to go after bad actors in the offshore gaming space. Alejandro Tengco says the increase would only distract from its licensing and regulatory roles.

“Now is the time to come to the Philippines”. That was the message PAGCOR chairman Alejandro Tengco gave at ICE London and amidst very strong results for 2023.

The Philippine Amusement and Gaming Corporation said that it is taking legal action against 33 offshore gaming licensees, including some who have left the country, for unpaid fees amounting to PHP 2.02 billion ($35.7 million), according to Chairman and CEO Alejandro Tengco.
