Gaming workers association vents concerns with govt

A gaming workers association has met with the Secretary of Economy and Finance discussing concerns relating to future job prospects and availability, which has become uncertain due to the COVID-19 outbreak.

During the morning meeting issues relating to the retendering of gaming license, employment of current employees, non-resident workers and non-gaming elements in the industry were discussed. 

The Macao Gaming Association director said that workers were also concerned about their careers due to the pandemic. 

The director said that he heard news online a few days ago that gaming workers were being asked by their employers to retire earlier, and put these concerns to Lei Wai Nong. 

However, he also noted that Macau’s gaming concessionaires have implemented several measures to preserve the employment of their workers during the pandemic. 

He said he hopes the government will, in turn, help to support the operators by implementing certain financial measures, such as extending the tax payment deadline. 

On the topic of non-resident workers, the association suggested that the government prioritize the employment of local residents and adjust the number of non-resident workers. 

Representatives from the Gaming Inspection and Coordination Bureau and Labor Affairs Bureau were also present at the meeting.
