Court reverses STDM land appeal decision

Macau’s Court of Final Appeal has reversed a 2015 decision which had allowed the government to take back a 968-square-metre parcel of land originally granted to Sociedade de Turismo e Diversões de Macau (STDM).

According to reports from Macau Business, the company had planned to build a three-storey villa on the plot, but had to give the land back after the plot was left idle past the expiration of its concession in 2013.

In 2016, STDM told the court of second instance that it was not liable for the plot being left idle, instead, it was due to errors made by Macau government regarding the plot’s buildable area which led to the company not being able to begin construction on the site.

At the time, despite agreeing with STDM, the court upheld the government decision.
