Unrest among Macau gaming workers

SJM workers have scheduled yet another protest and a strike against the gaming concessionaire on Saturday. MGM staff are also discontented, planning to complain at the Labour Affairs Bureau on Monday, local media reports. Forefront of Macau Gaming’s Feiji Loi told local press that the employees will hand in a medical sick leave on that day. He adds that they will also ask their colleagues from all of SJM’s casinos not to help the company. The demonstration will take place at three in the afternoon. Workers will start at Praca da Amizade and make their way towards Lisboa and Grand Lisboa. Forefront of Macau Gaming estimates that around a thousand workers will participate on Saturday’s protest. Cloee Chao, the secretary-general of the group wants MGM to add tips on the croupiers salaries. They are also demanding salary increases of up to ten percent from MGM. Croupiers are also complaining that the new smoke extract and ventilation system at gaming tables blows directly onto the croupiers making them feel unwell. For now Ms Chao says MGM workers will not take to the streets as they wish for a smoother approach.
