Shuttle bus drivers, casinos workers most at risk of coronavirus

Drivers of shuttle bus services that take tourists from the city’s borders to integrated resorts are at the highest risk of having contracted the coronavirus, according to the government’s coronavirus response and coordination center.

One of the ten locally confirmed cases involved a 59-year-old shuttle bus driver from SJM Holdings.

The Government Novel Coronavirus Response and Coordination Centre medical assistant, Lei Wai Seng said that tests have been conducted with 103 drivers, with the results expected in the next 24 hours.

According to Lei, after shuttle bus drivers, the next most at-risk groups include taxi drivers and casino and hotel workers, due to their contact with tourists from mainland China.

While Macau’s casinos have closed for fifteen days (with the potential to extend), it is understood that shuttle buses are still operating, though less frequently.
