The most remarkable aspect of the Kyushu-Nagasaki IR Business Connect Seminar held last week was that it revealed that there are a number potential IR operator bidders that were previously not known to be in the race for a regional Japanese IR.
Aside from Casinos Austria International, whose interest in Japan was unveiled last November, it emerges that there are quite a few others who have now thrown their hat in the ring: Agora Hospitality Group, Current Corporation-Sofitel Macau at Ponte 16 & Get Nice Holdings, NagaCorp, and Oshidori International Development. Moreover, the Disaster Support Foundation is presenting itself as a potential IR consortium member.
The Cambodia-based NagaCorp’s interest was particularly surprising as they had kept their name out of the advance billing for the event and hadn’t made public statements of interest in Japan previously.
Governor Hodo Nakamura gave a speech at the opening of the seminar, emphasizing that his prefecture has long worked to achieve a successful IR bid and has established the political and economic groundwork to ensure that it would prosper as a hub for international exchange.
Among the themes that emerged repeatedly in the discussions was the need for wider roads in the area, a viable plan to host overnight entertainment, and infrastructure for hosting VIP customers.
