NagaWorld casino workers protest after suspension pay gets cut

Around 200 employees from NagaWorld in Phnom Penh protested outside the Labor Ministry on Tuesday after the casino operator stopped the flow of workers suspension pay, which was being offered amid the casino’s closure, local media reports.

Chhim Sithar, president of NagaWorld’s employee union told local media outlet VOD that the company had originally agreed to pay workers 50 percent of their salaries whilst the casino was closed due to the coronavirus pandemic. 

However, Sithar said that these payments stopped as of this month. 

Sithar said the union gave the ministry three options that the company could take. Either pay workers 30 percent of their salaries and 20 percent from future salaries, lend workers $300 every month until they can return to work, or allow workers to borrow from their 15 days of annual leave.
