Cambodia casino reopenings underway

Cambodia’s more than one hundred casinos are in the process of reopening, according to a report in the Phnom Penh Post.

The report quotes Ministry of Economy and Finance Deputy Director Ros Phearun as saying, “The casinos are limited in operations and must ensure social distancing and cleanliness. We expect more reopenings soon.”

The report also asserts that “at least ten” casinos are already open to the public, eight in Sihanoukville and one each in Phnom Penh and Poipet. It notes that casinos in Bavet town, Svay Rieng Province, will follow soon.

Covid-19 prevention measures forced the shutdown of the kingdom’s casinos on April 1, and Prime Minister Hun Sen greenlighted reopenings on July 3, subject to the Ministry of Health’s approval process.

The Poipet casino confirmed to have reopened is Donaco’s Star Vegas, which has announced that it reopened last Friday.

NagaWorld reopened back in mid-July, apparently the first casino permitted to do so.
