China’s largest online travel group, Trip.com, has noted a 500 percent gain in searches for tourism products in Macau since China resumed issuing individual travel visas on Sept. 23rd, Macau Business reports.

Shanghai, Beijing, Chengdu, Hangzhou, Xiamen will be the top departure cities for Chinese travellers heading to Macau, the report said..

The chairman and co-founder of Trip.com, James Liang, co-hosted a special live streaming event yesterday at The Venetian Macao to promote travel to the SAR during the October National Day holiday period.

The newspaper reports the event was an initiative between the government Trip.com and Tencent to issue travel coupons worth RMB150 million to Chinese tourists to use when booking a hotel in Macau.

Liang predicted that Macau tourism will recover by 80 to 90 per cent, but probably only by November and December.
