Covid resurgence forces Kangwon Land to close again

A resurgence in the number of new Covid-19 cases in South Korea has convinced state-run operator Kangwon Land to once again suspend its operations as a public health measure.

The closure commenced on Sunday at 10 am and will continue for an undetermined period of time.

Among the big three casino operators on the Korean Peninsula, Kangwon Land has already had by far the longest period of business suspension. It originally closed on February 23 and maintained week-by-week extensions until it finally reopened in a limited fashion on July 20.

It now emerges that the reopening was for only about a month.

Kangwon Land’s casino is the only one in the nation open to locals, but is located in a remote former mining community some 200 kilometers northeast of Seoul.
